  1. EOG- England, Board Delta

Two boards. Fourteen Players. Three out of town travelers. It seems this little club of ours is taking off….

I pulled England for the third straight board. My immediate neighbors were Russell in France and Marco in Germany and Mathias in Russia. I have been perplexed by the strife we’ve had over the Channel in our club’s short history. (Eric, I’m looking at you). My inclination was to work with France, seeing as my last two boards forced me into game long EG alliances. When Germany took umbrage with my interest in Belgium, I knew I had a direction.

The ruse that Russ and I concocted was to ask Marco for a bounce in Burgundy in the spring, with Russ instead supporting himself into Burgundy. I would then forego my 2nd build in the fall to bounce Marco out of Holland or Denmark, depending on which way he opened. This plan was nearly derailed by court jester Mathias submission of an epic misorder in 1901 that left his northern fleet in port. For reasons complex, Marco chose risk a bounce in Holland instead of walking uncontested to Sweden. We bounced. Russ walked to Belgium and the stage was set. I outgained France due to Gio’s (Italy) persistent attacks in the Med. I rolled Scandinavia up like a rug while trying in vain to throw Munich to France.

In the East, Graham (Turkey) filled in admirably for the late-sleeping Scott. He secured the Black Sea and saw the Italian go west. Scott showed up in 1902 (with apology cookies) and he, Dave and Mathias did a little trust dance around Rumania for a few years. Eventually, Dave (and I) were able to convince Mathias to move Galacia to Silesia. Dave wanted space to operate, I wanted Russian assistance with Munich and Berlin. Turkey was swiftly sent packing.

The board developed into an EF vs. AR. Both Dave (Austria) and I agreed that we could stab our respective allies for big gains. Neither of us were willing to do so. Our game ended tidily in 1905. England topped the board with 9 centers with Austria a close second.

Marco and Russ played wonderfully and will be excellent additions to our club. Hope to see you guys at upcoming events.

    MORE EOG’s!

    -Christian
